Tarhaouhaout, Algeria – Geography Series

This post is part of the Geography Series (9th post).

Tarhaouhaout is the place in Algeria (Africa) where Fort Motylinski, the first fort in the Ahaggar mountains, built in 1908-09 as this page mentions. The place is in the north part of Sahara desert, and it’s about 40 km from Tamanrasset town.

Tamanrasset town (shown in the picture) has about 60000 inhabitants (as this page mentions), which is a pretty high number considering it’s at an elevation of over 1300 m in the Agaffar mountains in the Sahara desert. The town is the most isolated one between other larger cities of Algeria.
